Original pencil drawing by Lou Sprockett:

“Often artworks of motorbikes are all about shiny chrome and clean paintwork, so this was a different approach, like taking a different path, and with the bike being an off-road motorcycle the title had to be ‘Off the Beaten Path’. It’s the effect of the dirt and mud on the metal, rubber and plastic that made for a more interesting image.
I photographed the motorbike in bright sunshine and because the metal didn’t gleam in the light it looked a little flat, so I made the whole drawing a lot darker to create more emphasis on the shape and form of the different parts.”
