It’s no secret that Kawasaki’s Z900RS has become a darling of the custom scene in Japan, with the home grown product proving incredibly popular with builders and their clients. So, it made perfect sense that come show season, Japanese motorcycle parts distributor Plot, would use a Z as the canvas to show off many of the products they sell. But to push things into truly legendary territory, their latest creation takes the beloved retro roadster and channels the spirit of Kawasaki’s late-’70s square-tanked bruiser, the Z1000 Mk.II. And just like the factory evolution from the round-tanked Z1 to its boxier successor, this custom packs in refinement, precision, and a deep respect for history.

Plot is an absolutely enormous presence in the Japanese motorcycle scene and they use custom bikes to show off exactly what the business is all about. Not only do they distribute OEM pieces, and all of the parts you need to service or restore a bike, they’re also the national distributor for a huge number of local and international companies. From massive brands like Brembo, to small Japanese businesses that produce small runs of custom parts, it can all be found in the warehouses of Plot, ready to be shipped around The Land of the Rising Sun.

Last year, they also built a Z900S and dressed it up to look like the incredibly popular Z’s from the early ’70s, with a classic colour scheme and all that made that machine such an icon. This year? Plot swapped the sweeping lines of the original for harder angles, with Doremi’s brand-new Mk.II-style bodywork, which only became available earlier this year. That move alone sets this bike apart, but it’s just the start. With their extensive catalogue and access to parts from virtually every manufacturer, Plot’s challenge wasn’t just building a bike, it was curating the perfect combination of performance and aesthetics under tight show deadlines.

Doremi’s new exterior kit, complete with its squared-off tank and period-correct seat, immediately sets the tone. But it took an enormous amount of R&D to get it right, the lines might be easy to copy, but fitting them onto a fuel injected bike, needing an internal pump, and then navigating a perimeter frame, makes for a serious challenge. The side covers too, have been incredibly thought out, attaching without any signs of even a single bolt, while the iconic lines of the tail section are just as clever, working with the mono-shock rear end of the late model machine.

The Doremi kit is a comprehensive package, and also includes the rear taillight and the old school number plate hanger, for an authentic appearance. You also get a chrome front fender that bolts to the factory Z900S mounts, and the classic seat is part of the package too. You can opt to get the kit delivered unpainted, but Plot decided to have the Doremi option of having the parts delivered in a factory Kawasaki colour scheme, ready to bolt on. Then it was time to delve into their own catalogue, and the frame is stiffened up with chassis bracing in raw machined aluminium.

Turning to the bike’s performance, Plot’s position as the national distributor for Brembo products, put them in a very good position. At the front end, Brembo’s GP4-MS monoblock CNC calipers with cooling fins take pride of place, mounted via Plot’s own bespoke bolts. Combined with a Brembo RCS Corsa Corta master cylinder, this setup doesn’t just look exotic, it’s a tactile upgrade designed for razor-sharp control. Paired with Brembo Super Sport discs, this Z900RS stops as well as it goes. Machined aluminium rearsets are anodised black and have been designed to provide adjustability and a more positive shift through the gears.

From there, the spec sheet reads like a who’s-who of premium parts: a Nojima GT hand-bent DLC titanium full exhaust with its signature spiral collector elicit some extra power. While Doremi’s Z1-style generator and point covers, along with a Titanium Power radiator guard, tie the engine package together with both nostalgia and protection in mind. Up top, the cockpit has been dialed for comfort and control. Easy Fit bars sit slightly forward, offering extra room and a sportier stance, while EFFEX levers fine-tune clutch feel.

To reduce the unsprung mass and give the bike that old-school mag wheel vibe, the guys bolted on a set of Gale Speed Type-N forged rims. The choice of Bridgestone’s T33 touring rubber shows this isn’t just a showpiece; it’s a machine built to handle real-world streets with aplomb. While the full OVER RACING Swingarm TYPE10 in stealthy black, gives customers an idea of just how crazy they can go, if they want to convert their modern Z into a more track focussed machine.

Ultimately, Plot’s Z900RS Mk.II-style custom is more than just a parts catalogue on two wheels; it’s proof positive you can have the best of both worlds, old and new, classic style and modern reliability, nostalgia and nut cracking performance.
