From the epic adventures of Lawrence of Arabia to the heyday of the Paris-Dakar, those iconic periods in motorcycle history not only live on in memories but also fuel the modern retro segment that plays a significant role in the bike industry today. But you don’t just have to daydream in a haze of nostalgia; you can live those adventures, conquer the deserts, and form lifelong friendships for yourself. That’s what Scram Africa is all about, and the organisers, Fuel Motorcycles, have just announced the details of the 2025 event. The truth is, words simply can’t do justice to this epic adventure, but when one of last year’s participants said the only thing better is sex, we believe him!

“The Scram Africa is the world’s first adventure for scramblers, customised bikes, and classic off-road vehicles. It’s more than a trip; it’s an incredible experience of overcoming challenges, adventure, and friendship. A journey of more than 2,500 km to the south of Morocco by roads, trails, and dunes.” And just looking at the photos, it’s clear that every mile is filled with amazing moments—the ultimate way to feel alive on two wheels and meet new mates who will instantly become your best friends.

For the 12th edition, the 2025 event starts and finishes in the exotic Moroccan city of Marrakesh, with an initial briefing to be held on Saturday, 26 April 2025, and the farewell dinner ending the epic experience on 3 May 2025. During the days in between, you’ll ride an average of 300 km each day through a mix of off-road trails, desert dunes, coastal runs, and some of the most incredible locations on the planet. This is no leisurely Sunday stint; you need to be able to ride for around six hours a day, overcome some adversity, and handle all kinds of weather conditions.

But the rewards are more than worth it. You can’t experience shared adventure and accomplishment without pushing the limits of man and machine. There are seven stages in total, and to allow you to focus on the thrill of the ride, the organisers take care of everything from mechanical and medical assistance to a support truck for your luggage. All your meals are catered, and hotels and camping are part of the package. A GPS tracker ensures you won’t get left behind to crawl to an oasis, and there is even a press team on hand to capture your once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Speaking of those machines, you’ll want a scrambler or custom adventure bike; think modern motorcycles like a Ducati Desert Sled, Triumph Scrambler, or Royal Enfield Himalayan. For those looking to push their classic customs to the limit, it’s hard to go past the old-school BMW GS range or something like a CB-tanked Honda Domi. The event also has room for old-school 4x4s like the British Land Rover or a Toyota BJ. And whether you’re picking a vehicle old or new, you’ve got plenty of time to get it ready before the 2025 start line awaits you.

And it’s not just your bike that needs to be prepared, but your attire too. There is no shortage of suppliers who create brilliant retro-styled riding gear for serious days in the saddle. “There’s no obligation to dress a certain way, but we do appreciate it when your clothing matches the vibe of the trip—a journey into the past, filled with nostalgia and the adventure of bygone days,” the organisers tell us.
